Give your notifications their own sound

In short: A notification sound should be short, between two and ten seconds. In Nagma, choose Text tone to make a cut of 10 seconds or less. On Android, set it in Settings under Notification sound. On iPhone, install it, then pick it in Sounds & Haptics under Text Tone.

Make a short notification sound

Steps

  1. In Nagma, pick the song or recording, then tap Text tone at the top.
  2. Set the handles around two to five clear seconds; that is plenty for an alert.
  3. Tap Android or iPhone and save the file.
  4. On Android: Settings → Sounds and vibration → Notification sound → add your file.
  5. On iPhone: install the file as the steps show, then Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Text Tone.

What about WhatsApp notification sounds?

On Android, WhatsApp lets you choose a sound for each chat or for all notifications from a file on your phone: open Settings inside WhatsApp, then Notifications, then Notification tone. The exact steps can change between versions.

On iPhone, WhatsApp only offers its own built-in sounds and does not currently accept an outside file. There is no reliable way to give WhatsApp a custom sound on iPhone; the text tone you make here works for iPhone Messages, not WhatsApp.

What people ask

Why does a text tone stop at 10 seconds?

A long alert interrupts calls and media and annoys the people around you. Ten seconds is a comfortable ceiling, and most people settle on less than five.

Can each Android app have its own sound?

Often, yes. Open Settings, then Apps, pick the app, then Notifications; on many phones each kind of notification has its own sound option.

Does a custom tone work for Mail and Reminders on iPhone?

Yes. Once installed, the tone appears in every sound list under Sounds & Haptics, including New Mail, Reminders and Calendar alerts.
